Top High School Acceptance

Anthony and I (Iris) recorded a podcast about my current challenge.

Sometimes, getting accepted in a Top High School has a little or nothing to do with your grades, but more with money or power. I don't have either of those but i have excellent grades, and duPont Manual High School feels like I am not good enough for their school. Hear my story and post your opinions in a comment. Thanks

The LA Times had a long series of articles on high school dropout rates. One of these talks about school transfers and how it is that the more transfers, the more likely a student drops out. Not that that's going to be Iris's fate, of course (!), but the trend is important.

Hi Iris and Anthony!

I'm glad you both are taking the initiative in posting new podcasts--it's so nice to hear your voices and to find out a little about what is going on in your lives.

Iris, I'm so sorry about what happened with the high school, but it is their loss not getting a student like you! Try not to be too frustrated with the situation, and perhaps they really don't have enough space for any more students. If you are really set in getting into this school, I would recommend asking how better to improve your application for next year. However, by what you said about them not wanting to even talk with you, it doesn't sound like the administration at that school really supports education. In that case, you will probably not be happy there anyway.

Anthony, you're like the next Ryan Seacrest! You should definitely do more interviews with the other students :)

You raise a lot of important questions in your SMASHcast. Sounds like you have a lot of invaluable skills and interests that any top high school would be lucky to have.
